National Museum of Unity, Ibadan
The Ibadan National Museum of Unity, located in Aleshinloye, stands as a testament to the diverse ethnic groups that form Nigeria. Established with the aim of preserving and showcasing cultural artifacts from across the nation, it was inaugurated under the National Commission for Museums and Monuments in 2002. Over the years, the museum has hosted various events and collaborations, including an exhibition with OBAS and a new centre to boost tourism.
The collections highlight the spiritual and artistic heritage of Nigeria's ethnic groups through masquerade galleries, musical instruments, sculptures, and traditional textiles like Aso-Oke. Exhibits range from Egungun masks to royal effigies and from Yoruba pottery known as Kula to Epa ceremonial masks. The museum also houses a unique collection of ritual pots used in various religions and a variety of traditional African instruments.
