Kamuzu Mausoleum

Lilongwe Monument

Nestled within Kamuzu Memorial Park, the mausoleum serves as a tribute to Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda, who guided Malawi through its journey towards independence. Situated on Presidential Way, adjacent to the parliament building and the National Parliament Complex, it holds significant historical importance for the nation.

The monument's construction began in 2005 under President Bingu Wa Mutharika and was completed a year later. Crafted from marble and granite, the mausoleum features four pillars inscribed with the principles of 'Unity', 'Loyalty', 'Discipline', and 'Obedience'. The entrance displays a portrait of Dr. Kamuzu Banda.

President Mutharika had pledged to build this monument as a way to honour the legacy of Malawi's first president, emphasizing its importance during his tenure.
