Abuja City Gate

Abuja Monument

The Abuja City Gate is a prominent national landmark located on Airport Road in Kukwaba district. Erected in 1991 under Ibrahim Babangida's administration, it marks the transition from Lagos to Abuja as Nigeria's capital city. The monument serves as both an entryway and welcoming symbol for visitors arriving at the international airport.

Featuring three arches, with two large inverted columns framing the Nigerian flag and a central arch displaying the country’s coat of arms, it stands out as a formal entrance into Abuja. Plans are in place to renovate the site, incorporating a water fountain and recreational space, set for completion by March 2026.
